My journey to becoming a Phoenix
In November of 2018, I lost my husband of 23 years to suicide, and my home to a fire. In the blink of an eye, my whole life changed. I had the clothing on my back, and very little else. I remember that night like it was yesterday…it was 18 degrees, and I could no longer feel my feet as I was talking with the detectives about what had happened. I was numb. My marriage was no longer a safe space for me, and I had been trying to find a way to leave and find myself again. I no longer had my own identity. I remember telling myself that night, “I am a Phoenix. I will rise from the ashes and become who I was meant to be.” A friend of mine suggested that I try yoga as a way to work through my trauma, and so…my journey began. Through yoga, I found a way to cope with the trauma of what had happened and starting my life over again. Through yoga I learned who I was, and found a community that spoke from the same place that I did, from the soul. I decided to become a yoga instructor as my way to pay it forward. Through my yoga journey, I discovered one of the most beautiful places on earth, Yandara. It is not beautiful because of its location (although it is stunning)...it is beautiful because it is a place where all that go there speak the same heart language. It is where you meet someone, share stories, laugh, cry, hug, and then introduce yourselves. My mission in holding this retreat is so that others can experience the magic of this place just like I did, and in doing so, unleash their authentic selves.
